Workshop: Making and Illuminating of Kubur (Cylinder Boxes)
April 17, 2015 @ 16:00 - 18:00
45$Overview / Description / Introduction
‘Kubur’ is the name given to cylinder carton boxes, which were originally used to carry arrows. The word “kubur” comes from the Arabic word “kabr” meaning “deep hole”. This is because of its cylinder form. Additionally, Kubur was also used to carry Ottoman Sultans’ Fermans (Written Orders) and calligraphy artists’ writing tools.
In this workshop you will learn how to make Kubur, and decorate it by using traditional techniques. You can later keep your own box as a souvenir. You can also ask questions of the artist.
